Tournament Format
Bangor's Chess Congress is a Rapidplay competition; a 6 Round Swiss Tournament with 30 minutes on the clock completed in a single day. The Congress is traditionally held in late September, not long before the regular League Season begins. Because of this timing, it is often the first time local Chess players meet together since the previous years league season ended in May, and of course a good opportunity to get back into competitive chess. Still, the Congress is as much a social occassion as a competitive chess event. Make a date in your calendar!
Since 2003 the Congress has been dedicated to our club co-founder Mr. Eddie Webb who lent his name to the trophy awarded to the Congress winner. By a curious twist of fate, on the very day his cup was first played for on20 th September 2003, Eddie died after a long illness. We remember Eddie with affection as a great club man, a redoubtable opponent, and most importantly, as a friend.
