Damien's Competition

Damien Lavery offers a prize for the best solution to his recent game against Calum Leitch in the Ulster Championship.

The game between Damien Lavery (White) and Calum Leitch (Black) in the final round of the 2003 Ulster Championship at Fortwilliam Golf Club, Belfast was agreed drawn.

After much studying Damien reached the conclusion that the position at move 41 is a win for Black. He says it is a very interesting study, not solvable by computer, and (for those who were there at the time) is definitely not the win as suggested by the 10000 ELO group of players who studied this position at the end of the game.

Damien invites the UCU community to come up with the win or prove the draw, the solution to be provided at the end of the Williamson Shield on the 25th January 2004. He offers a lovely black Turnier clock that I never use as a prize for the best solution. In the event of multiple correct entries, the winner will be decided by putting all the names in a hat and drawing one out.

You can view the whole game or discuss the position.
