St. Patrick favours Carnegie

On St. Patrick's night, Carnegie entertained Clifton House

After a shaky start to the season Carnegie have gotten into their stride with a strong team line-up. Rising from the tail-end of Division 1 they have risen to challenge Fisherwick for the number 2 slot. They needed a strong showing against league leaders Clifton House to avoid slipping out of contention again.

A superlative performance on all boards with almost a clean sweep for Carnegie to claim a 4-1 win for the Bangor team.

This has rocketted Carnegie into number 1 position in the League ahead of both Clifton House and Fisherwick but they have a one match advantage over their opponents. The deciding fixture might well be the head-on clash between Fisherwick and Clifton House next week. If this turns out well for Bangor, the final fixture of the season might well decide the League winner with Carnegie looking a strong contender.

Final week's fixtures
  • Carnegie vs Malone: Malone have found good form again with the acquisition of Bernard Kern on board 1
  • Clifton House vs North Belfast: North Belfast have struggled to maintain consistency on bottom boards; can be formidable opponents
  • Fisherwick vs Civil Service: Civil Service have mixed fortunes at Fisherwick
But before then, each of the contenders must survive Week 14 and replayed postponements
  • Carnegie vs Civil Service: last weeks 4-1 win for Carnegie looks encouraging
  • Clifton House vs Civil Service: again mixed fortunes for Civil Service, could go either way
  • Fisherwick vs North Belfast: both matches drawn this season
Clifton House's  domination of the league has certainly evaporated,  can Carnegie step up to claim  Division title?  Too close to call at the moment.
