Division 2 teams falter

In their challenge for Division 2 honours, have both Barracudas and Groomsport squandered their chances?

Club rivalry has been been intense between the Barracudas and Groomsport veterans as both teams compete for 2nd place behind RVH Hawks. Their last two matches have been disastrous though and while competition between the two is still undecided, have they let Bombardier in to steal league honours?

Groomsport
Richard Proctor packed his van to travel to Portadown for what should have been a comfortable win against new League entrants Portadown. This years Division 2 competition has been more difficult than ever, and despite valiant efforts Portadown have been unable to get off bottom-spot. Monday night's game was a major turning point for both teams. Portadown claim their first league victory at the expense of Groomsport who may have lost their chance at catching Barracudas.

Portadown emerged victors with 3.5 to Groomsport's 1.5
Barracudas
Groomsport's result revived the Barracudas with an opportunity to put some distance between the two teams as they travelled to Hillsborough on Tuesday. But it was not to be. Despite fielding a 10-man strong team, Barracudas fell to Hillsborough, losing 3.5-1.5.

Division 2 Finale
These two results have opened up the runner-up spot for Division 2. A strong showing from Bombardier on Tuesday has complicated it even more.
  • Barracudas hold strong in second place with a final match against Portadown
  • Bombardier lie only 2.5 points behind with their final match in two weeks against league leaders RVH Hawks
  • Groomsport trail the Barracudas by 13 points but with two games against Fortwilliam to come in the next 2 weeks
A couple of poor results earlier in the season have come back to haunt the Barracudas; for now their fate is in the hands of others.
