Fisherwick win Novice Team Trophy
Bangor Chess Club organised a Rapidplay Team Tournament for 31st March
with teams visiting from Fisherwick, Hillsborough and Randalstown. This
year several clubs have attracted many new players who have regularly
competed in friendly matches through the season; this was an
opportunity to raise the stakes. Players were limited to ratings under
1200. Teams played 30 minute Rapidplay matches over 3 rounds so that
every team played each other.
In round 1, teams were well balanced but in round 2 Bangor and Fisherwick began to dominate.
Randalstown rearranged their playing order in the final round but to no avail as Fisherwick delivered a comprehensive whitewash to claim all 5-points, enough to win the competition.
Event organiser, Drew Ferguson, presented the tournament trophy to Mark Allen after the Bangor Club president, Richard Proctor, congratulated Fisherwick and all players on an excellent tournament.
